THEATRE COLUMBUS was established in November 1983 by Martha Ross and Leah Cherniak to create their own plays in a style that reflected their interest and skill in a physical theatre tradition. Martha and Leah were trained at L'Ecole Jacques Lecoq, the renowned theatre school in Paris. Their training has influenced both their theatrical style and the nature of how they create. THEATRE COLUMBUS is devoted to the creation of new work which is based on themes and issues relevant to our time and place.

The company mounts one production a year, develops one or two new pieces at varying stages of development, and has several programs of outreach into the artistic community. The company is looking toward significanat growth over the next 3 years, especially in the areas of outreach, education and play development.
