We are multi-site manufacturing company that is seeking a Plant Manager to join our team in Toronto, CanadaSome responsibilities include but not limited to:
Responsible for all operational objectives and initiatives for manufacturing. This position will be responsible for managing and developing employees, planning and directing the workflow, process methods, work force utilization and optimization. Direct supervision of Plant Supervisors, Process Engineers, Plant System Manager and indirect oversight of other on-site staff. Able to develop high levels of credibility and positive professional working relationships with team members, peers, and executive team. Must be able to communicate effectively with executive team, employees and vendors.
- Direct supervision of Key Plant Managers/Supervisors.
- Troubleshooting production and quality issues.
- Participate in the daily morning integration meeting and job planning.
- Supporting all safety, quality and regulatory programs.
- Primary Contact for all Utility Providers.
- Manage and escalate as required equipment failures, production upsets, quality, and delivery issues.
- Primary contact for special projects and requests requiring operations lead or input. Examples of these are requests from business for improvement projects, needed information in support of projects, contract negotiations, etc.
- Assisting with the training of operators and with the training program as needed.
- Responsible for work done by outside contractors/consultants on capital projects.
- Ensures that all work falling within scope of responsibility meets professional, corporate, provincial and federal guidelines for quality, safety and the environment.
- People management, development, goal setting and accountability as core responsibilities.
- Manage site manufacturing activities to ensure all functions are driving toward common goals as set forth in strategic and operating plans.
- Drive implementation of methods required to achieve cost targets, improve quality, ensure high level of return on investment for capital, and improve the manufacturing environment.
- Provide executive and management team with accurate and timely reports on monthly and quarterly basis.
- Participate in strategic and operational planning and develop annual operating budgets.
- Interact with regulatory agencies and maintain knowledge of applicable regulations, standards, and compliance issues.
- Understand the operation of all production equipment.
- Create and maintain plans for efficient use of materials, machines and workforce.
- Develop operational reports to determine causes for bottlenecks and identify solutions to eliminate bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to create and maintain a culture of accountability and ensure adequate training of all employees, and encourage a positive approach to work.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Engineering Degree Required, MBA preferred. Practical knowledge of chemicals, automation systems, boilers, pumps, and process equipment. Combination of technical and business experience. 10 – 15 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment with food processing experience preferred. Experience working in a union environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
