Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Tax Manager with experience in Canadian tax regulations and compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in tax preparation and planning, particularly for small businesses. This role is vital in helping our clients achieve tax efficiency, navigate regulatory changes, and ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and review tax returns for individuals, corporations, and small businesses, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Canadian tax laws.
• Provide strategic tax planning and advisory services to clients, identifying opportunities for tax savings.
• Research complex tax issues, keeping up-to-date with changes in Canadian tax legislation and interpreting their impact on clients.
• Assist clients with tax audits, disputes, and appeals, acting as their representative in dealings with tax authorities.
• Support clients in meeting various filing requirements, including income tax, GST/HST, payroll, and other regulatory obligations.
• Work closely with clients to understand their financial goals and provide customized tax solutions.
• Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure seamless client service across tax and accounting needs.
• Identify opportunities for additional services to help clients grow and manage their businesses effectively.
Skills & Abilities
• Strong knowledge of Canadian tax laws, regulations, and filing requirements.
• Proficient in tax preparation software such as Caseware and TaxPrep.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters to clients in an understandable way.
• Ability to manage multiple client engagements and meet deadlines efficiently.
• Proficiency in tax preparation software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Knowledge & Experience
• Minimum of 4-7 years of experience in Canadian tax preparation and planning, ideally within a professional services or accounting firm.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• CPA designation is required.
• Completion of CICA In-Depth Tax Course (all three levels) is required.
• Experience working with small businesses and understanding of the unique tax needs and challenges they face.
• Strong technical skills in tax research and analysis tools.
