Want to Win at your Job Search?
Posted: 08.30.2016
Most people are conducting their job search day in and day out with no goals… no end in sight and most of the candidates we speak with are sending their applications online and wondering why there are no results.
What most don’t stop and think about is that finding a job takes a lot more than that in today’s economy. It takes time, creativity, dedication, preparation and thinking outside the box.
Below are some suggestions and steps we think you should take to kick your job search up a notch:
1. Create a strategy and stick to it. Plan your job search like a full-time job. Get up, get dressed up and focus… every minute of every day.
2. Network with everyone you know… and everyone you don’t know. Let everyone you know you are looking for a job and ask for connections for those you don’t know and make them know you and what you are looking for.
3. Be present and searchable. Alter your social media profiles to include quantitative information and keywords directly related to your skill sets to increase your online visibility.
4. Follow-up. Did you just apply for a job online? Are you waiting for a response? Have 3,4,5 days gone by and nothing? BE PROACTIVE. Find the recruiter hiring for the position… call the company, search on Linkedin… find that contact! Once you have, prepare to make a phone call to follow-up with your application. If you are a fit for the position, they will take the time to speak with you.
5. Create a brand for yourself. In today’s economic climate, there is strong competition across all industries. Develop a personal branding statement which will be present in your cover letter, at the top of your resume and at the beginning of every interview when your interviewer asks the question “Tell me about yourself”. What sets you apart?
