What Blue Monday? How to Be Optimistic in your Job Search
Posted: 01.16.2017
Today is classified as Blue Monday… the third Monday in January which is said to scientifically be the most depressing day of the year.
What have you done today to feel positive and optimistic about your job search?
Here are some top tips we have to beat this thing they call Blue Monday:
1. Create a job search to-do list. To-do lists give you a sense of feeling accomplished. Writing lists and crossing things off as you complete them creates an overall feeling of productivity which in-turn gives us a sense of optimism about our goals.
2. Develop a Routine. Wake up and get dressed as if you are going to work each day. Create a schedule for your day/week/month, organize your applications and cross things off your to-do list.
3. Explore all Options. Review your resume and focus on your accomplishments. We all have them and should celebrate our strengths. Perhaps once you review your accomplishments something might stand out that can be transferred to a new industry or type of position.
4. Keep Busy. Volunteer for events related to industries you want to work in. Attend Career Fairs. Sign-up for networking events in your area. There are lots of ways you can get out and meet people. Referrals are key!
5. Set Reasonable Goals. At the start of each day/week, create a list of specific, manageable goals to achieve. Setting and achieving goals keeps us in a positive, forward-thinking mind-set.
