Best Buy Cuts 5000 Jobs; 750 in Canada
Posted: 02.26.2021
Best Buy announced on Thursday (February 25th, 2021) that it laid off 5000 employees this past month.
The layoffs include 750 employees in Canada, including 90 full-time positions and 660 part-time jobs.
The company says the reason for the layoffs is a result of its customers choosing to buy more online rather than coming into stores. They said they will be replacing the 5000 laid off employees with 2000 part-time employees.
Best Buy says they will be re-training employees to help with online orders. They also said that more space in the stores is being used for shipping orders or getting orders ready for curbside pickup.
